A day in Kensington: The Design Museum

Design Museum - Girlglobalising

Remember when it actually felt like spring had arrived? We all left our coats at home, some even packed away for good. We started eating dinner outside and dreaming of cocktails in the sunshine.

Well that was short lived wasn’t it! But still, we made the most of the glorious sun and headed out for a day in Kensington.

It’s an area of London that’s fairly unknown to me, apart from knowing it’s where the wealthy, Made-in-Chelsea lot hang out when they’re not at glamorous parties.

But new to the area is the Design Museum, having moved into the old Commonwealth Museum a few months ago, and completely changed the stuffy old building into a piece of design itself.

Wander into the museum and marvel at the incredible amount of space and high ceilings. The architecture itself it worth a photo or two. Take a seat on the steps and look up and around until your neck starts to ache. Then head into the exhibitions.

Take your time to look around. Find out about the design and engineering history before getting to the interactive stuff.

I hear the restaurant is very good and well worth a visit, although we didn’t stop in there on this particular visit.

Where we headed to is equally worth noting – tucked away on a side street off Kensington High Street is Cafe Phillies serving up fresh breakfasts and lunches. Both Dom and I can highly recommend the mezze platter.

Afterwards, take a wander around the beautiful Holland Park just next door. Sit under a blossom tree and enjoy a tranquil moment in the busy city.

Or if you’re differently inclined, have a look at what the high street has to offer. With all the usual delights of Zara and H&M, plus the added bonus of Uniqlo and MUJI. There’s even a Whole Foods which I certainly always enjoy browsing.

I’m sure there’s plenty more to explore in Kensington, but we had an appointment with David Hockney over at the Tate Britain that couldn’t be missed. Should you be after a bit more art and culture in one day then I suggest you visit before it’s too late!

I can totallt relate to the thing about spring. Where I live we had such nice weather, nearly 20 degrees.. and then it started to snow all of a sudden.
